MATHEMATICS

Maths is taught throughout the school using a variety of methods suited to the individual needs of the children, and supported by appropriate, modern resources. Our spiral mathematics curriculum means that areas of learning are revisited and built on more frequently. Our regular and on-going assessment process means we are able to provide high levels of support for less able mathematicians, while challenging the more able  to explore advanced skills and develop their confidence when faced with complex problem solving activities.

Through our exciting maths lessons pupils are taught how to make sense of the world around them, through developing their ability to calculate, to reason and to solve problems. This enables our pupils to understand and appreciate relationships and pattern in both number and space in their everyday lives. Through their growing knowledge and understanding, pupils learn to appreciate the contribution made by many people to the development and application of mathematics.

Mathematics is a creative and highly inter-connected discipline that has been developed over centuries, providing the solution to some of history’s most intriguing problems. It is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering, and necessary for financial literacy and most forms of employment.  We provide a high-quality mathematics education therefore providing a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically, an appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics, and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject.
