GEOGRAPHY

In Geography the pupils learn about their local area and contrast this with other localities both in this country and abroad. They are taught about how culture and lifestyle is different depending on geographical location. The pupils explore physical geographical features such as rivers and mountains and discuss their impact on human life.

Geography is concerned with the study of places, the human and physical processes that shape them, and the people who live in them. Children study their local area, parts of the North West, and localities in the United Kingdom, and other parts of the world. Geography helps children to gain a greater understanding of the ways of life and cultures of people in other places.

Our teachers provide a high-quality geography education which inspires pupil’s curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. Teachers equip pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes. As pupils progress, their growing knowledge about the world should help them to deepen their understanding of the interaction between physical and human processes, and of the formation and use of landscapes and environments.

Geographical knowledge, understanding and skills provide the framework and approaches that explain how the Earth’s features at different scales are shaped, interconnected and change over time.

Teachers provide enjoyable and varied lessons which are planned to allow children to build upon their knowledge and understanding of geographical concepts. Wherever possible we try to form a cross curricular link, so that the children gain exposure to many aspects of life.
